Real Lawyers Have Blogs : Law Blogs, Social Media, Twitter

We have five launches in total this week with topics covered ranging from construction law to human resources to employment and human rights to oil and gas evaluation to nano and clean technology. Whew, a lot. Whether these blogs cover your area of expertise or not, feel free to drop in and take a look, maybe leave a comment if you feel so inclined.

• Toronto lawyer Lisa Stam authors Employment & Human Rights in Canada. One of the reasons Lisa decided to start the blog was that social media in the workplace has been such an important legal issue that she wanted to get firsthand experience with it.
• The professionals at Southwest Florida law firm Henderson Franklin publish the HR Law & Solutions blog. Topics covered on the blog include HR seminars, workplace safety, employee benefits and workplace policies.
• Looking to provide a good resource for lawyers in the energy field, the Obsidian Energy Company has launched The Oil and Gas Evaluation Report. On the blog they aim to discuss current issues and developments pertaining to oil and gas evaluations for both the non-industry and industry professional.
• AmLaw 200 firm Foley & Lardner launched their great-looking Nano & Cleantech Blog, with Dr. J. Steven Rutt —a Partner and the Vice-Chairman of the firm's Nanotechnology Industry Team—serving as the blog's editor.
• Boasting a very sharp design, Construction Law Today is published by Chicago lawyer Joshua Glazov, who aptly describes the publication as "a legal blog about construction contracts, disputes, finance, and the people whose job it is to deal with them."

We have two new law blogs launching and joining the LexBlog network along with two special projects going live, one of which being a blog from LexBlog's own Ashley See. All are very cool, take a look.

• The Anchor Plate is a blog on intellectual property authored by St. Louis attorneys Pete Salsich and Geoff Gerber. The two—who write on topics that include litigation, media, copyrights and trademarks—aim to provide an alternative voice on the practice of intellectual property litigation.
• Published by Brad Giering and Brian Perley of Independent Discovery, the Medical Summation & Litigation Strategies blog provides insight and commentary on legal research and the analysis of medical records.
• A very special blog, Emmy's Prayer for Sight is the effort of Emmy's parents, Kristen and Elmer Latchford. Emmy was born prematurely and it was discovered later that she had Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, a medical condition that results in underdevelopment of the optic nerves. However, Kristen and Elmer have found a hospital in China that is having amazing results in helping ONH babies and children to improve, many to the point of sight. They hope to raise enough money for the hospital stay, treatments, doctor bills, and flight to China because none of this is covered by their medical insurance. 
• Freshly Vegetarian is authored by LexBlog's own Author Services Manager, Ashley See, a recent adopter of vegetarianism. She will write on what vegetarianism entails, vegetarian recipes, the health advantages of vegetarianism and her continued experience with being a vegetarian.

Despite the short work week, we still managed to launch five blogs. I'm obviously interested to see how each and every LexBlog publication turns out but there's one this week I'm particularly intrigued by. If you've read my commentary in these and the LexBlog Network roundups, I'm sure you know which one.

• The Florida Probate, Trust & Estate Blog is published by the professionals at Florida law firm Clark Skatoff. Their firm's areas of expertise include will contests, maladministration of a probate estate or trust, disputes regarding the interpretation of a will or trust, power of attorney abuse, Florida Homestead disputes, and fiduciary compensation disputes.
• Fox Rothschild launches LexBlog blog #23 in the form of the Sports Law Scoreboard. The blog is authored by sports and entertainment attorneys Jeffrey Kravitz, Ismael Bautista, Jr. and Edward Hayes. They intend to inform the sports community, fellow fans and casual observers on the legal and business side of sports.
• Family Law in Nevada is updated by Henderson, NV lawyers Kevin Beck and Justin Pingel. Blog covers family law topics that include alimony, divorce, mediation and settlement, child custody and annulment.
• Flat Fee IP covers the developing practice of providing IP litigation on a flat fee basis as opposed to billing an hourly rate. This blog covers the ongoing experience of Dave Bohrer and Michael Kallus of Confluence Law Partners, who are working within this framework.
• Continuing Legal Education Today is authored by Faith Pincus of Pincus Professional Education, which provides unique, quality, practical Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars in California, Washington and Illinois.

With the holidays bearing down on us, it's nice to see that some of our new bloggers aren't waiting until the new year to launch. This week we launched two blogs from firms with quite a few blogs already out there, as well as two that are new to the LexBlog Network. We have a nice variety of topics, including asset protection, environmental law, accident & injury and corporate law. Take a look.

• The Florida Asset Protection Blog comes from Orlando attorney Jonathan Alper. Jonathan has been blogging about asset protection law and planning since 2004, and he brings his wealth of experience to our network.
• The environmental attorneys at Greenberg Traurig launched the firm's first blog with LexBlog this week, the E2 Law Blog. This AmLaw 200 firm uses the blog to provide insight and commentary on environmental and energy issues nationwide.
• Blogging dynamo and Minnesota attorney Jason Brown has introduced yet another of his firm's blogs. This one, Minnesota Accident & Injury Law, shares information and updates on accident and negligence cases in the Twin Cities and beyond.
• The New Jersey and Mid-Atlantic firm of Cole Schotz added another blog to their collection with the launch of Corporate Law Monitor. They provide updates and commentary on corporate law and business issues.

We have five launches in total this week with four really joining the LexBlog Network (you'll see). The legal publications launching this week should be great resources. For example, LoTempio Law Blog has a very comprehensive library of patent, copyright and trademark terms. AmLaw 200 firm McGuireWoods launches their first LexBlog publication while Harvey Law firm in New Mexico and Illinois attorney Shahzad Khan do the same.

• Class Action Countermeasures is authored by Virginia lawyer Andrew Trask of McGuireWoods LLP. He has participated in the defense of more than 100 class actions, involving all stages of the litigation process. The blog provides commentary on the strategic considerations involved in class action defense.
• Illinois Family Law Advocate is updated by Peoria attorney Shahzad R. Khan. The blog is aimed at being both a resource on and forum for news and information pertaining specifically to issues affecting Illinois families and about Illinois family law.
• Albuquerque-based Harvey Law Firm and its four lawyers publish New Mexico Nursing Home Advocate News. Topics covered on their blog include choosing a nursing home, nursing home contracts, patient care and patient rights.
• Buffalo lawyer Vincent LoTempio launched his LoTempio Law Blog on patent, trademark and copyright law. As mentioned before, the blog has an extensive library on associated terms. He concentrates in servicing independent inventors, large and small companies and corporations in patent law, trademark law, copyright law, computer law, e-commerce law, licensing, trade secret and related matters

Also worth noting: Not necessarily joining the 'LexBlog Network' but still produced by our phenomenal team and launching this week: my blog, Past The Press Box, on social media and sports. The blog falls under the American Sportswriter division of LexBlog and covers topics that include sports blogging tips and Twitter's use in sports.

• Getting Funded Law Blog is published by Gregory Kleiber, Michael Maransky, Megan Duryea Santana and Robert Walper of Fox Rothschild. The authors cover a wide variety of topics pertaining to getting loans and a project or business funded in the current economic climate.
• Boston attorney Brian Simoneau authors the Massachusetts DUI Law blog. He represents clients throughout the state in breathalyzer refusal, license suspension, hardship license, ignition interlock, and other related matters involving the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Board of Appeal.

I hope everyone plans on having a festive but safe Halloween. LexBlog isn't quite as festive as companies like Zappos, but some of us did dress up. The week ends with five new blogs joining the LexBlog Network. Give these new publications some love and leave a comment or two.

• Trends In International Litigation is published by Florida attorney Edward Joffe of Joffe & Joffe LLC. Both the blog and Joffe's legal practice concentrate in areas related to international law and trade with a focus on litigation in the state and federal court.
• The Workplace Privacy, Data Management & Security Report is AmLaw 200 firm Jackson Lewis' fourth LexBlog publication. This one covers topics that include HIPAA, identity theft, workplace investigations and workplace privacy.
• Covering a very hot topic in the legal realm right now, Yaz On Trial is a collaborative effort between Girard Gibbs LLP and The Danko Law Firm. The blogs is aimed at monitoring information and lawsuits relating to the side effects of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella.
• Ely, Minnesota lawyer Kelly Klun publishes the North Woods Real Estate blog. On the blog, she provides insight and commentary on cabin, lake home, property development and estate planning in Minnesota.
• Energy Efficiency & Climate Change Law is published by David Frankil, a third-year student at The George Washington University Law School. With the blog, Frankil intends to contribute to the ever-increasing public discourse surrounding energy efficiency and climate change.

Another week comes to a close, this one with an absolutely gorgeous Seattle day. We had four new blogs launch this week along with another refocused blog. All are definitely worth a read but at least take a look as each of these new publications feature exceptional designs as well.

• The InformationLawGroup launched their blog of the same name on blog privacy, security, technology and intellectual property. The lawyers of the Information Law Group have successfully served a diverse range of clients: from large Fortune 500 multinationals and name-brand traditional brick-and-mortar companies, to small start-ups and technology service providers.
• Pill Mill Monitor is authored by Dallas attorney Kay Van Wey, a veteran personal injury trial lawyer, having practiced in the field for over 25 years. The blog provides news and views about prescription drug diversion for victims and their families. 
• Aaron D. Hall of Twin Cities Law Firm publishes Minnesota Attorney blog. Aaron has extensive experience in corporate and business law, and representing businesses and business owners in lawsuits.
• In Black & White is authored by experienced legal marketer Paula Black. Paula is venturing into the blogging world after much success as an author, having written three books, including Amazon-bestseller “The Little Black Book: A Lawyer’s Guide To Creating A Marketing Habit in 21 Days.”
• Scottsdale lawyer Angelo Patane decided to do some refocusing on his blog and this week has re-launched it as the Arizona Birth Injury Lawyer Blog. Angelo Patane leads the medical malpractice group at the law firm of Koplow & Patane.

• Wage & Hour Law Update is authored by Paul DeCamp and Alexander Passantino of Jackson Lewis. Their firm helps employers minimize the cost of legal compliance, and, when necessary, defend employers in administrative and judicial proceedings.
• Rejoining the fray after some time away, Fox Rothschild's Art Law blog provides commentary on recent developments in art litigation and art finance. Fox Rothschild helps protect their clients' reputations and art investments with services ranging from due diligence reviews and investigations to art theft recovery and repatriation.
• Covering a unique subject, the Pay to Play Law Blog is written by Stefan Passantino and Amol Naik of McKenna Long & Aldridge. The blog was created to help readers make sense of the legislative developments and hopefully foster debate as to corporate compliance and the direction of future legislation.
• And finally we have The California Employee Advocate, published by United Employees Law Group. Their blog focuses on “cutting edge” California labor issues and newsworthy court decisions and opinions that affect California employees
