Tennesee law professor's blog ranks No. 1

WBIR-TV in Knoxville TN reported last night that University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds is top blog, according to Wired magazine.
The station reported Instapundit.com, Reynolds' site for online musings, is the most visited Weblog in the world, with more than 100,000 hits a day, the magazine reports in its February issue.

Need a Robert lawyer?

I wonder how many people go about selecting a lawyer by first name. Probably not too many but it was a darn good thing that West's FindLaw paid to take care of such folks doing a search at google.
Do a search for Robert lawyer. FindLaw has bought a sponsored link for a Robert lawyer and of course they are first in the search results for a page titled: “Find a Robert Lawyer.” I've been thinking about getting me one of them. I did a search for Barbie lawyer and darn, FindLaw did not have any of those in stock.

Blogs > lawyers can get valuable coverage in a blog

Great article on the Public Relations Society of America site on how blogs provide valuable PR opportunities. The authors Lloyd Trufelman and Laura Goldberg acknowledge the name 'blog' sounds more like a sci-fi character than a legitimate news source, but point out blogs are rapidly becoming authoritative news sources. They recommend PR professionals should keep this new type of media on their radar screens. The point of the article is that there may be coverage to be gained for our in our case, lawyers, in blogs that cover a specific topic.
Though people kid me that blogs are for kid's diaries the article points out that a growing audience of Web-savvy newshounds has quickly taken to getting their news and views from blogs. This trend has caught the notice of established Internet news sources, which have joined in the game. Recently, the authors' client MSNBC.com (www.msnbc.com) unveiled a collection of blogs on its site. In addition, their agency handled press for the successful launch of the pop culture blog Plastic (www.plastic.com), which was begun by the editors behind the Webby award-winning e-zine Feed (www.feedmag.com).

The Industry Standard – it's back in the form of a blog

For those of us then in the dotcom industry or for those of you that just followed our roller coaster ride, you recall The Industry Standard . The magazine told is what was the hottest and we hoped to hell we or at least something to do with what we were working on would get coverage. It was on the newstands in avery airport. When we all went away, The Industry Standard went away. Guess what? It's backkkk. This time in the form of a blog.

Blogs > create news wire service

A sound law firm marketing program will include public relations. Part of the public relations work will include holding out the firm's lawyers as experts in the area of law within which they practice. The goal is to get the media to contact the lawyers for information on stories and to quote the lawyer as an authority in the story. Typically law firms do this PR work by having a news room on their Web site, networking with journalists & reporters and issuing timely press releases via fax or email.
Setting up a blog where the firm becomes the source of news – the Associated Press, if you will, – on a particular area of law may be a far more powerful way to get the job done. Journalists doing stories relevant to the area of law picking up feeds from the blog by RSS or email now have an instant source for stories and experts to quote. Those journalists not subscribing to the blog will pick up your blog in a New York minute when doing a search on the topic at google.com. Heck, you will be doing journalists a favor.

Blog template

A good lawyer blog template varies. It all depends on what works best for the lawyer's marketing efforts and what the lawyer feels the most comfortable with. The great thing about a blog is that a blog allows the categories, or sections of the blog, to be modified easily without any knowledge of computer coding.

Blogs > legal, not personal stuff is key

A lawyer contacted me today about whether a lawyer's blog to be used for marketing should focus on the law or include information about the lawyer's personal life, like we see in many 'diary type' blogs. I told him stick with the law.

Blogs > Fast Company | You Are Your References

Interesting article by Seth Grodin, author of Relationship Marketing and now Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, in Fast Company about how your references for others are not something that live on a resume any longer but are something you create or fail to create through your online presence. Seth tells us us blogs are one way to create a positive public record that can be seen by potential customers and that we cannot be afraid to go out and create this record for fear we will be exposed later on…

Blogs > USA Today cover story

Well, blogs have made the cover story of USA Today. Think of all the folks who picked up their free copy outside their hotel doorway or at the airport to see the headline “Freewheeling Bloggers…” Comes on top of PC Magazine's prediction that both Leno and Letterman would crack jokes about blogs in early 2004. The public is learning about blogs in a hurry.
