LinkedIn in action

March 19, 2008

For those questioning the value of LinkedIn, just got good value from my network again this morning.

We’re working with an Irish law firm on a new blog. Question arose internally this morning as to whether to use a .com or .ie domain. We wanted to make certain that the firm made the right impression and did not commit a faux pas when entering into the Irish blogosphere.

Went into my connections at LinkedIn and found Krishna De, a Dublin based brand strategy and social media expert.

Emailed her with our question. Less than a half hour later received Krishna’s response.

In terms of domain names I think especially if they are going to work with people overseas then the .com would be appropriate.

Some people feel that having a .ie domain name shows they are credible in the market – there is a thorough process and they are more expensive to get.

I would personally go for a .com domain but if they want to make sure that no one else gets the domain name in Ireland if that is important to them then they could purchase the .ie and domain map it over to the blog.

Don’t ask has LinkedIn made me any money. You may wish to ask how networking with thought leaders in your area of expertise can make you better at what you do.
