Couric’s CBS Evening News to be simulcast online
In another sign that we’re moving to an online world, Staci from paidcontent.org reports Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News wlll be simulcast online.
Other online features of Couric’s broadcast include:
- An ad-supported VOD or users can continue to pick individual reports as is the case now.
- A blog.
- Podcasts.
Staci says as big a step as this might be, CBS isn’t going far enough.
In order to reach the largest possible audience — another goal [Sean] McManus (CBS News president) mentioned — the network should make the newscasts available immediately as audio and video downloads for those who commute or travel. The geolimits on viewing a network-owned show are almost anachronistic and replicate broadcast standards instead of taking full advantage of the internet.
May not be all the way yet, but CBS was making significant moves to the net before Dan Rather’s leaving. We’ll soon see subscribing to the CBS evening News via RSS feeds.
