Happy July 4th : US Air Force spending $450 K to study blogs
July 3, 2006
In honor of July 4th, you’ll be happy to know your US Air Force is spending $450K to study blogs.
We call it ‘How do blogs work?’ The Air Force calls it “Automated Ontologically-Based Link Analysis of International Web Logs for the Timely Discovery of Relevant and Credible Information.”
Joshua Micah Marshal at Talking Points Memo, was ‘amused’ by what the Air Force found out so far.
- It can be challenging for information analysts to tell what’s important in blogs unless you analyze patterns.
- One of the problems analysts may have with blog monitoring is there is too much actionable information for the analyst to properly analyze.
- Blog entries have a different structure, they are typically short and are about something external to the blog posting itself, such as a news event.
Happy 4th.
