May 7, 2006
Reuters reports there will be 60 million Chinese bloggers by the end of 2006.
Interesting stats in the Reuters report:
- China is the world’s second-largest Internet market after the United States with more than 110 million users.
- Currently 36.82 million blogs kept by 16 million people.
- Number of Chinese bloggers is expected to hit 60 million by the end of this year.
- The expected 60 million bloggers would account for more than half of China’s 110 million netizens.
- The number of bloggers in China will hit 100 million by 2007.
- Nine percent of Chinese bloggers write every day, 29 percent write once to three times a week, while 35 percent write four to six times a week.
It is China though, not the United States. The Communist Party monitors Internet discussion and has closed down some outspoken blogs.
