Newsweek adds blog watch column : worthless

March 6, 2005

Steve Rubel’s Micro Persuasion reports Newsweek’s addition of a BlogWatch Column. Newsweek calls it “[A] weekly mainstream-media snapshot of what’s hot (or what’s not) in the ever-widening world of Weblogs.” I call it a piece of junk compared to you deciding what you think hot and worthwhile via your own news aggregator.

The column will increase the public’s interest in blogs. That’s usually the case with traditional publishers with distribution channels. Look at West’s FindLaw and Martindale-Hubbell’s lawyers.com. Both brought big attention to lawyer Web sites because they had a distribution channel. But few, if any, would say either company is delivering a decent law firm Web site.
