MSN Search to launch February One

January 15, 2005

According to a Moderator at Search Engine Watch, MSN Search will come out of its beta test version on February One. He said he “was told by a high level Microsoft employee that the MSN beta search will go live [at MSN] on Feb 1.” We’ll probably see it then as the ‘go live’ date had been anticipated for the end of last year.

Until now, MSN search results tracked Yahoo’s. Now law firm marketing folks will need to really monitor the big three, Google, Yahoo and MSN for how their blog and Web sites are doing in the search engine rankings.

Also of interest is the discussion in above forum post about Microsoft’s intent to develop its own ‘pay per click’ (PPC) system. Right now MSN uses Yahoo’s Overture sponsored link system to display two pay per click links on the top of their displayed search results. Word has it Microsoft is hiring PPC experts which sure makes it look like MSN will have its own PPC system before its agreement with Yahoo expires in 2006.
