Olympic blog ban

August 20, 2004

olympicsymbol.jpgNothing to do with lawyers, unless we have some lawyers competing in the Summer Olympics, but here’s a story about people who don’t have blogs.

You will not be getting the inside scoop from athletes about life at the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has barred athletes, coaches and nearly everyone associated with a team from writing about their experiences for a newspaper or Web site – blogs included.

According to USA Today: “The IOC’s rationale for the restrictions is that athletes and their coaches should not serve as journalists – and that the interests of broadcast rights holders and accredited media come first.” Yes, money rules at the Olympics.
