LexBlog and the Open Legal Blog Archive Can Do More to Help Identify Niche Opportunities For Legal Blogging
Luxury Travel Magazine shared today what it thought were the best niches within which to start a blog.
Though some might question the relevance of blogging in a world dominated by social media and short-form content, the magazine explained that blogging holds an irreplaceable spot in digital content creation.
In addition to evergreen content in bite size pieces not available elsewhere, 55% of marketers consider blog posts, whether short or long, as top-performing content.
The key though is identifying the right niches. Where’s the opportunity?
The magazine article started with food, fashion, travel and fitness and then started looking at niches within these niches.
Lawyers, unfortunately, tend to focus a blog on a practice area, one which every law firm tends to blog on, and not look at niche opportunities.
Seeing this article I couldn’t help but think that LexBlog and the Open Legal Blog Archive that LexBlog supports couldn’t do more to help legal professionals decide on niches.
These two libraries of legal blogs include virtually all credible legal blogs – from the States and Overseas. They are full of ideas. The Open Legal Blog Archive has about 900,000 blog posts and 60,000 authors.
We should be able to identify niche opportunities by jurisdictions and topics as well as alert legal professionals about new blog publications, inspiring them to do something similar in their state or locale.
Maybe even get something akin to a listserv for discussions among existing and prospective bloggers going so as to enable discussions on opportunities, among other things. Listservs are not dead. I belong to a prolific one on publishing.
I could also field questions by email and phone. I’ve been around this legal blogging for a couple decades.
Niches, and niches in niches, are king when it comes to having a rewarding time in legal blogging.
In addition to me talking a good game, maybe there is something more we can do to help here.
