A Lawyer’s Blog Represents Much More Than a Legal Directory Submission

Reading a piece in the Global Legal Post about the Do’s and Don’ts of Legal Directory Submissions, I couldn’t help but think that a blogging lawyer’s directory listing was taken care of by their blogging.

If a legal directory listing is meant to represent status or a reputation builder for a lawyer, as it was when I practiced, a blog has it all over a directory listing.

A well written niche blog establishes a lawyer’s reputation as a trusted authority, builds relationships with clients, prospective clients, referral sources and influencers and builds out a profile on Google and social media – in spades.

I am not familiar with legal directories of today and I suspect they offer more than my Martindale-Hubbell listing with an AV rating – which was pretty important in the pre-Internet days.

But today, after a getting lawyer’s name from someone they know, the leading way people find a lawyer, lawyers and the public don’t turn solely to a directory.

They turn to the net where in five minutes a blogging lawyer’s reputation as a trusted, experienced and caring lawyer is established by their blogging.
