Facebook is testing an expansion of its search feature, per TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez (@saraintampa).

Facebook is enabling mobile users to search via keyword for old posts by friends, as well as content from pages they followed. The feature is only available to a small number of users for now.

Called “Graph Search,” the feature was rolled out to some desktop users last year. But, as Perez says, with most people using Facebook on mobile, and not every user having the search on desktop, it appears Facebook is rolling search out slowly.

I am relying more and more on my Facebook friends for news and information. I discover items they share and ask for things I am looking for.

Search would be a great addition for finding things I recall being shared and discussed. Heck, it would be great to see if items I am looking for have been shared or discussed by friends.

Search on Facebook could become as valuable as Google because of the trust you place in your friends and the quality of the results Facebook could return based on the social interaction of you and your friends.

I like that the search is restricted, for now, to items relating to my friends. It’s the value my friends bring to my life, business-wise and personally, that makes Facebook so valuable.

Facebook is arguably becoming the front page of news, information, and dialogue in our society. A search of the front page is only natural.
