My blog, Real Lawyers Have Blogs, is 10 years old next week. How do we celebrate?

November 15, 2013

20131115-135812.jpg Next Friday, Real Lawyers Have Blogs (“RLHB”) will be ten years old.

Beer in Seattle is in order for that afternoon. But do you have any other ideas for how to celebrate? Of course, I am not looking to be told where to put my blog by those who didn’t favor a candor comment or two along the way.

One idea I have is to share some of your stories as lawyer-bloggers. What’s been most rewarding in your blogging? What’s been the greatest challenge? Any tips for newcomers? Would you do it again?

Share your stories on blogging with me or on your blog. I’ll share them here, on Twitter, and on the Facebook page for RLHB. Of course we’re looking for real lawyers who blog, not just lawyers who have a blog. You know what I mean.

This blog has been published since the start to serve you. To share news, insight, and commentary I thought helpful to lawyers — as well as to inspire more lawyers to blog.

Not only does blogging advance dialogue in the law, blogs enable consumers of legal services (consumers to in-house counsel) to select a trusted lawyer in a more informed fashion.

Blogging is also one of the most personally rewarding things a lawyer can do.

Of course, there’s business development from good blogging, but the feeling you get from sharing what you’re passionate about, meeting people with similar passions, and getting positive feedback in the form of thank you notes, interviews, speaking engagements, and more is hard to describe. It’s a far cry from the ‘angry-grams’ we get as lawyers from other lawyers and, sometimes, clients.

Blogging more than makes up for the brunt of lawyer jokes, and the “Oh, I didn’t realize you were a lawyer” look you get from time to time.

So share your stories. You have a story to share and lawyers to inspire. If nothing else, it’ll be cause for reflection on what you are accomplishing.

Have a great weekend and keep blogging. I think I have another 10 years in me.
