Twitter ups number of lists you may have, number of accounts in each
With a single Tweet Twitter increased the number of lists an account holder may have from 20 to 1,000. You may also now have 5,000 accounts (Twitter users) in a single list, up from 500.
Though not impacting most people, this is a nice increase for those of us who make heavy use of Twitter lists.
I am building out a LexBlog community member Twitter list and was just shy of 500 Twitter accounts in the list. With 8,000 lawyers blogging in the LexBlog community, I can use that 5,000.
Though I don’t see myself getting to 1,000 lists, the limit of 20 was cramping me a bit. I don’t monitor 20 lists at a time, but there are some lists I set up for limited periods that I don’t want to delete and rebuild later. My Indianapolis 500 list would be such an example.
Tim Baran (@tim_baran) of Rocket Matter writes that the change in Twitter lists comes just in time to replace Google Reader, which shut downs on July 1. Many people, lawyers included, use Twitter lists to receive steady streams of current news from trusted sources.
Though convenient for users, I am apt to think Twitter made the change to get better and better data on people and their social circles. The more Twitter users group other users by interests the more Twitter can learn about people, their likes, and how they engage. All very valuable for advertisers.
What ever the reason, the increase in Twitter list numbers is a nice get for many of us.
