Meet Russell Nickel, LexBlog's Chief Financial Officer & General Manager

December 22, 2010

For LexBlog CFO and General Manager Russell Nickel, it’s all about growth. Nickel, who had seen two previous companies grow 300 and 900 percent in his time at each, joins LexBlog with an eye on efficiency, and using efficiency to build on LexBlog’s already strong base.

“I spent seven years in public accounting,” said Nickel, “since then I’ve really been focusing on emerging growth companies and centered around really coming in, early development, and focused on building out that financial foundation that supports the long-term view and long-term growth plans for the company.”

Nickel previously served as the CFO at Reischling Press, a privately held manufacturing company that is the leader in the personalized print market. For Nickel, some of the manufacturing principles he utilized there have carried over to LexBlog.

“It’s interesting how a lot of those lean principles actually carry forward into what we do, in terms of refining the process and defining a process that incorporates 80 percent of what we do and then you manage the exceptions on an exception basis,” Nickel said.

While Nickel’s previous experience as a CFO is obviously of great use to LexBlog, so too was his seven years spent in public accounting. Having spent time in a large firm and, like an attorney, fostering relationships to aid client development, he can relate to LexBlog’s clients and see how a blog could be a powerful tool.

“You can see where it really can be something that would enhance the lives of professionals,” said Nickel, who’s considering starting his own blog after seeing the success of colleague Tim Driggers.

It was that that attitude and philosophy that lured Nickel to LexBlog.

“Really, you got the sense during the interview process that the company is focused on making the lives better for the professionals, for its clients. That came through from day one,” Nickel said. “That aspect that you can make the difference, it’s certainly better than being at a place that makes widgets.”

Like the other new members of LexBlog’s executive team, Nickel has an eye on the future, both in the short and long-term.

“I want to continue to grow the top line and grow the bottom line and be a successful business as you would define successful businesses in emerging marketplaces: continuing to innovate, continuing to offer new products and servicing the needs of our clients that they don’t even know need to be addressed.”
