Do you look like your Twitter avatar?

November 14, 2010

Twitter avatar of Kevin OKeefeAt each Beer for Bloggers I host, at least a couple folks come up to me and say, “You’re the one person who really looks like their picture on Twitter.” And I don’t even have my Cubs hat on – though I regularly carry my Cubs hat with me to Beer for Bloggers for fear that folks will not recognize me without it.

Do you look like your Twitter avatar? If not, why not?

Twitter is an information network. People follow people on Twitter whom they trust to deliver worthwhile information.

Why not have people recognize you as someone they trust when you get the opportunity to cross paths in person? Why leave someone wondering why you’re branding yourself behind a Twitter avatar that doesn’t look like you? People wonder about less important things. And you don’t want to play with trust.

I chose a picture for Twitter of me when I was relaxed and enjoying myself. One of my kids took picture of my wife, Jill, and I together at a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

I’d like to think when I’m put meeting people and talking with folks I’m relaxed and having fun. So the picture works.

Why wouldn’t you want to look like the picture on your Twitter avatar?
