LexBlog Vision & Mission (First Draft)

July 16, 2009

As everyone on team LexBlog knows, I’ve been working with Bob Burgess, a seasoned organizational development pro, for the last few months. Bob’s great. Bob’s worked with a who’s who of companies here in the Northwest and around the country.

For corporate leaders who have put the foundational bricks in place (credible solution/service/product and achieved profitability) seize the opportunity to work with a caring professional like Bob on organizational development and change. I’m just started and I can see it as a life changing event.

Bob, myself, and my team are working on a planned, top-down, organization-wide effort to increase LexBlog organization’s effectiveness and health. We’re working on a strategy intended to formulate the beliefs, attitudes, values, and structure of LexBlog so the organization can better adapt to new technologies, markets, and challenges.

The first step was a me sitting down and developing a vision and mission for LexBlog. Where are we headed? How are we going to get there?

I’ve got a first draft I want to share with you on the LexBlog team, you as clients, and the all the rest of you I’ve had the honor of meeting through blogging the last 6 years. And I didn’t do this on my own. Bob listened to me in meetings over a few days and got some things up the white board.

The LexBlog team will start working with Bob and I this afternoon to further craft this vision and mission. Our vision and mission will mean nothing if we’re not all fully vested in what we stand for. We’ll also start crafting our values.

Vision

LexBlog is building the power of networking through the Internet. We’re taking the legal profession to where it’s never gone before. (a little Star-Trekkie, but my belief none the less)

Mission

  • To continue to grow and expand as the leader in developing and enhancing the use of social media for the legal profession.
  • To enhance a lawyer’s reputation as a trusted and reliable authority.
  • To improve the personal and professional lives of the clients we serve.
  • To create a quicker connection (relationship) between lawyers and people to help lawyers become more intimate with prospective and existing clients to better serve new and existing clients.

Does this draft feel under cooked? No doubt. We have multiple meetings coming up, including a two day off-site retreat for the entire team.

For those on the LexBlog team, before we get together this afternoon, ask yourself what this vision and mission means to you? Ask what role you play in supporting the vision and mission?

For the rest of you, stay tuned to what we craft going forward. And as always I’m looking for feedback and ideas.
