LexBlog: Time for a new website

I started LexBlog out of my garage over 4 years ago. With the help of a good friend, I put up the LexBlog website sharing what I then knew about lawyer blogs and offering what I believed to be an effective turnkey blog solution.

Like my seven year old VW Beetle, the LexBlog website has served me and the team well. 350 plus law blogs and over 850 lawyer authors. That ain’t chopped liver. But it’s time for a change.

A new LexBlog website needs to highlight:

  • Our team. When I started LexBlog, it was me and a friend helping me out for free. Today, there’s 14 of us, including IT, design and development, client services, client development, and editorial professionals. Time to showcase those who deliver for our clients each day.
  • Our cause. Access to the law, improving the image of our legal profession, connecting people with the best lawyers, and empowering lawyers to reach for something more are the things that drive us.
  • Our commitment to effective blogging. Blogging to further enhance one’s reputation and get clients is an art. Entering into a conversation with thought leaders, using social networking & social media, and blogging to add value are skills we’re committed to teaching.
  • Our work. I had a concept, vision, and a dream in 2004. Today LexBlog has the privilege of serving hundreds of law firm clients ranging from solos to the large firm in the country. Their blogging successes need to be shared as a model for others to follow.
  • Our services. Ah, the packages on the current website describing how LexBlog will provide content and help publish your blog. They need to go. I now know that blogging effectively is not so time intensive nor intimidating to preclude good lawyers from taking part. By training lawyers how to blog and providing never ending support, we know that lawyers have tremendous success without content contribution from us.

And the new website needs to be simplified.

  • Why blog?
  • Why LexBlog?
  • What does LexBlog do for you?
  • Who is LexBlog?
  • Who uses LexBlog?
  • What’s going on at LexBlog today?
  • An offer to sign up to learn more about professional law blogs.

In the coming week or so, I’ll share draft copy of sections of the new LexBlog website. Why? One, I don’t know any other way to write than to blog. And two, blogging and getting feedback from you has been the single biggest learning experience in my life. Why not take advantage of it here?

Thanks for your upcoming help.
