The inside story on blogs and how they work

Read that headline from the Eureka Times-Standard. Thinking there would some worthwhile stuff to share with you, I read the article.

What do I get?

  • Blogging is catching on in the business world.
  • A well-written blog can attract an audience in ways a static Web site cannot.
  • Web hosted blog solutions are one option for businesses.
  • Installing blog software on your server is another option.
  • Blogging is just one of many ways to communicate in the new networked world.

What? That’s all there is to know? No wonder so many law firms are launching blogs. We’ve got to get started right now.

May sound nuts, but that’s the depth of knowledge a lot of firms act on when moving forward with blogs. It’s cheap, fast, and the guys in IT can just whip something together and have it up shortly.

Getting this type of knowledge is like dropping your hook about a foot below the surface. Problem is running an effective law blog – one that works for enhancing a lawyer’s reputation, growing business, and that doesn’t embarrass the law firm requires going 100 feet down.

This doesn’t mean running a successful law blog takes an inordinate amount of time. It just means taking the time to really know what you’re doing. And relying on the tech guys alone is like relying on an electrician to produce a TV show because television sets plug into an electrical socket.

If you’re not prepared to learn what blogging is all about, that’s okay, you can still launch a successful blog. You have loads of clients who do not know the first thing about the law but who achieve successful legal outcomes. They’ve got you to counsel, plan, and execute.

Blogging’s a lot like that. You can be a success, but find someone that knows what they’re doing if you’re not prepared to dig deep yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
