Should I start a blog for my law firm or not?

January 1, 2008

Blog and marketing expert Patsi Krakoff picked up on recent net discussion flowing from the New York Times article on blogs offering consulting businesses big marketing returns by asking ‘Which Businesses Are Ideal, Which Are Not.’

Starting the new year, Patsi says businesses ought to ask ‘Should I start a blog for my business or not?’ And that there’s only three answers.

  1. Yes, this makes sense and I’ll start this week;
  2. Yes, but not yet; or
  3. No, my business wouldn’t lend itself to creative blog content that readers would love.

Which king of business should be answering #1 per Patsi? Here’s 5 of the Patsi’s top 7, with the first 2 topping her list.

  • Consultants
  • Experts
  • Solo businesses
  • Service businesses
  • Businesses with a need to educate customers

She even adds,

If you’re in any kind of business that has an educational component, you should definitely set up a business blog. You’ll be able to reach and teach more people than you ever dreamed of.(emphasis added)

Looks like lawyers were built to blog or that blogs were built for lawyers. Your call.
