Adding new authors to your blog can improve it

January 1, 2008

I‘ve been trying to get LexBlog team members, and perhaps it should be beyond the company, to post here from time to time. Rob La Gatta, LexBlog’s Editorial Manager already does.

But it would be great to see other folks offering divergent opinions on better blogging, design, development, IT issues, and client development in law firms. We’ve discussed having a group LexBlog blog with the launch of our new corporate site this year. But trying to keep the pulse and drive going on multiple blogs? That’s tough.

So I read with interest marketing expert Andy Beals post on ‘How Adding New Bloggers to Your Blog Can Improve It.’ Andy says without a doubt, the best decision he made for his blog, MarketingPilgrim, during 2007 was the addition of new contributors.

Why the benefit from adding authors per Andy?

  • A deeper range of opinion. Readers are treated to broader insight and views-which Andy could not have provided on his own.
  • More content for Google. With more writers, you produce more content for Google’s hungry spiders to digest.
  • Expanded syndication. The addition of new writers helped position Marketing Pilgrim as a leading source of marketing news-which lead to our inclusion in Google News.
  • More time for other projects. With the extra writing help, Andy was able to spend more time on research, development, and promotion for the site. (I like that)
  • Keeping me on my toes. There’s nothing like having fresh ideas and writing styles to help you evaluate and improve your own writing. He learned a lot from new writers. (I always need that)

As to how to find additional bloggers, Andy suggests a writing contest or a simple request for reader submissions. Darren Rowse on whose blog Andy posted also says there’s a guest author post coming on ProBlogger ‘with lots of practical advice on how to add new contributors to your blog.’

Better watch out Stacey, Jesse, Brian, Greg, Brian, and Kevin. You guys and the others at LexBlog with a heap of talent may be getting more than continuing subtle nudges to join in the conversation here.

And here’s a simple request for reader submissions. Want to contribute a post to Real Lawyers Have Blogs? I’m wide open.
