This isn’t Kansas anymore Toto

December 13, 2006

Or at least not the Kansas lawyer marketing of a few years ago. Kansas Divorce Lawyer, Grant Griffiths, is having incredible success in getting new clients with his Kansas Family Law Blog.

I sat down with Grant last week to discuss his successes. Hope you enjoy our talk.

Q: My understanding is that you are using a blog and no other advertising or marketing to get new clients. Why like the blog marketing as opposed to other marketing? A: First of all, I have more control over what is actually being provided, i.e. content posted to the blog. And when the content will be made public. Second, ROI is outstanding compared to other marketing available. If you compare the ROI of blogging to the yellow pages, there is a huge difference in the outcome of blogging compared to running a yellow page ad. And, the yellow page ad is for the most part static. It never changes. With blogging, you can update the information provided to your readers and to the public as often as you want. By maintaining your blog, your web presence fresh. Q: And you get work from your blog? People ask me that every day – do lawyers actually get work from blogs? A: Yes!! I average 12 to 15 inquires a week either by email or when someone submits the form from the blog. I also get phone calls from the blog. In addition, I probably average 2 new divorces per week from the blog. Just today I opened 3 new divorces from the blog. Q: So you average 2 new clients a week but two today you actually opened 3 new files? A: Yes. It was busy. Q: I am always asked about all the time it must take to blog. How much time does it take you to blog? How often do post on your family law blog? A: In the beginning, I posted like mad. Usually one per day. Now I post 1 or 2 times a week on average. But, the number of post is not as important as the quality of content. If you provide content that people are looking for, your blog will be found. And people appreciate the fact they have a source for the information they are looking for in a form they understand and can use. Q: Many lawyers tell me a blog post may take as little as 15 or 20 minutes? A: At the most. It really does not take that long to put up a quality post. After all, most of us are being asked questions everyday and the answers make great posts to your blog. And if you use a good RSS reader and know what to look for, the information will come to you. Q: And some of best posts are answers to questions you often get? A: Exactly. If you provide the answers to questions you are actually getting in your practice, chances are others are looking for the same answers on Google. If they are looking and you post about it, they will find you.

As way of background, Grant practices in Clay Center, Kansas, population 4,564. He draws many clients from around the state for uncontested divorces not requiring a court appearance. And yes, he’s a LexBlog client.
