Scoring blog traffic with headlines

September 29, 2006

The great Brian Clark of CopyBlogger is ready to do some work for you – for free!

Drop the URL of one your posts in the comments to Brian’s latest Magnetic Headlines post. He’ll pick as many as he can and rewrite the headline (or tell you your post title already rocks). Then he’ll link to the posts late next week. In addition, other copywriters are welcome to choose their own selections, rewrite the post titles, and put it all in a blog post of their own. Brian will link to all those as well.

Why are headlines important? Brian relayed the example of ‘10 Things That Will Make or Break Your Website‘ by Markus of AU interactive. By crafting that headline, Marcus and Brian got it to the front page of Digg, where it scored over 1100 votes, scored a bunch of Delicious bookmarks (665), and got it time on TechMeme.

Ryan Irelan, who does Web production for LexBlog, and I were talking about Brian’s blog this morning. We were in agreement it’s a hell of a blog. Good content. Very well organized by categories and resources. Strong internal linking between posts. Nice user interface. All in all a great place to learn more about blog writing and marketing.
