Organization helping disabled : Links do not open new windows

I know I am opening a can of worms on the debate on links not opening windows.

From Knowbility, whose mission is to support the independence of children and adults with disabilities by promoting the use and improving the availability of accessible information technology:

These are items that detract from accessibility and usability of websites.

Pop-ups and New Browser Windows……When it is necessary to display information in a new browser window, inform the user in advance and provide a method for closing and resizing the new window.

Was repeated in San Jose, Blogger Skye Kilaen’s presentation on blog accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act at Blogher ’06.

Don’t open new windows from links without warning people.
