New Jersey lawyers can’t call themselves Super Lawyers

July 23, 2006

From the Asbury Park Press, the New Jersey Supreme Court has barred lawyers from calling themselves Super Lawyers.

For the non-lawyer readers, there’s publishing company out of Minnesota called Super Lawyers that has a series of annual state publications designating lawyers as ‘Super Lawyers.’ Best I can tell, law firms then stumble over each other to buy ads in the state publications showing pictures of their ‘super lawyers’ along side their firm logo and bragging they have more ‘super lawyers’ than other law firms.

Though the chosen lawyers liberally use the ‘Super Lawyer’ designation in their marketing, I have not seen any lawyer ads depicting a lawyer in a cape.
