Traits of successful bloggers : UMass study
Via Steve Rubel, a UMass study has identified the traits of a successful bloggers.
Dr. Nora Ganim Barnes, Chancellor Professor of Marketing, conducted the study (pdf copy), by interviewing 74 different business bloggers to identify what makes some stand out more than others. I have not read the study yet but Steve says it’s chockfull of valuable information. Steve culled the following ‘truths’ from Dr. Barnes’ research:
- Blogs take time and commitment.
- Blogs must be part of a plan
- A blog is a conversation
- Transparency, authenticity, and focus are good. Bland is bad.
Flying in the face of the blog ‘naysayers,’ is the below graph depicting that the vast majority of bloggers spend less than an hour a day blogging. The majority of LexBlog’s clients, many experiencing tremendous success in enhancing their image and growing their business, spend much less time that. Many, less than an hour a week.
