47% of all blog posts are tagged
May 14, 2006
David Sifry, head of Technorati, reports nearly half (47%) of all blog posts have an author-generated category or set of tags associated with the post.
Tagging content so as to create a human edited taxonomy has value. Tagging content for Technorati or delcious is one thing. However, blog publishers are making their blogs look like a Nascar car with icons for little known tagging sites. They expect users to tag the content for these abstract tagging sites that may not be around in a year. Some of this may be done for SEO purposes so as to create incoming links. But I wouldn’t trade a nice looking site for a marginal seo bounce.
