Tag tutorial : How to integrate tags into your blog

February 27, 2006

Aaron Brazell, publisher of Emerging Earth and Technosailor.com, has published at ProBlogger an outstanding tutorial on how to integrate tags into your blog and why it’s important.

Many bloggers are tagging each of their posts. It’s done for at least two reasons. One, for internal blog purposes. This way a blogger can keep track of their posts by just clicking on a tag displayed at the foot of a post. Each post referencing that subject (assuming it’s properly tagged) will then be displayed.

Two, bloggers want to tag their content for Technorati. By doing so, a bloggers post is displayed at Technorati with all other posts with the same tag from all blog publishers using tags. Bloggers, including Steve Rubel, have seen increased traffic to their blog via tags at Technorati.

What’s the future of tags? From Steve, someone I have the most respect for, “I bet we’ll see ‘the tag’ submitted as an Internet standard in the next few months, much like the trackback.”

And before you guys all jump me, we’re working on integration of tags into our product back at the LexBlog ranch.
