About.com switches from MT to WordPress blog software

December 10, 2005

About.com, owned by the New York Times and run entirely on blog software, is switching from Moveable Type (MT) to WordPress software.

Although good news for WordPress, the majority of corporate blog developers, including LexBlog, are sticking with Six Apart’s MT. We’ve found MT reliable and very extensible in allowing us to serve our clients’ needs.

For those not familiar with the power of blog software, take a look at About.com. There’s over 475 guides sharing information on niche topics. It’s a top 15 Web property generating millions of page views viewed by one out of every five people on the Internet.

Not that long ago, About.com was run on expensive database driven content management software. Inexpensive and easy to use blog software now does the trick. Law firm and business web sites could do the same thing.
