Blogs to play big roll in advertising

October 18, 2005

Blog web traffic was up 31 percent through the first seven months of 2005, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. As such, Red Herring reports venture capitalists and internet executives are looking for ways to make money on the trend of consumer-created content such as blogs.

Though ad dollars are primarily generated through Google ads today, execs see advertisers paying to reach target blog audiences. “Five or seven years ago, you needed to be of a certain size to get ads,’ Ariel Poler, a director of Odeo, a podcast startup, told Red Herring. “The ability to monetize audiences is better than ever.”

Though I am not a proponent of placing ads on professional marketing blogs, I am smart enough to understand advertising will help fund the blogosphere. It’ll include both ads on blog sites as well as on RSS feeds.
