Blogman back on Bainbridge Island

July 30, 2005

entry.jpgI’m back in the saddle on Bainbridge Island after a trip back to the Midwest this week for presentations on Internet marketing and blogs in Chicago and Indianapolis. Both great places with wonderful people. Owe Larry Bodine (Chicago) and Nancy Myrland (Indy) a big thank you for bringing me in.

What did I learn?

  • Blogs for legal marketing are hot, very hot.
  • Legal marketing professionals and lawyers can’t get enough information about what professional marketing blogs are, their advantages vis a vis other Internet marketing and how blogs are being used by leading law firms across the country.
  • Legal marketing professionals are quick to grasp the concept of blogging as a marketing tool, probably more so than traditional legal marketers and legal Web developers who question the effectiveness of blogs.
  • More than ever I enjoy going out and meeting with legal marketing professionals and lawyers to share what I know and to find out how LexBlog can help lawyers and law firms. When I served as a VP of LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell after they acquired my last company, they wouldn’t let me go across the street to help lawyers or legal marketing professionals. More emphasis was placed on not ruffling each other’s feathers than turning talented people loose to help current and prospective customers.
  • Legal marketing, business development and law firm sales professionals are great people. Innovators, leaders and risk takers who fight the internal battles to grow a firm’s business.(Heck, knew this already but always bears repeating)
  • It would be impossible to teach folks about this topic without publishing an active blog on legal marketing via blogs and spending all of your time staying up to speed on the technology and marketing ideas in the area of blogs and RSS feeds. Lawyers and legal marketing professionals ask good questions which I am able to answer based on my observations & networking. This alone should keep LexBlog ahead of FindLaw and Martindale when they launch their blog products.

Bring a legal marketing blog presentation to your town

Want to do a program on professional marketing blogs in your town? I’t ain’t hard. Just ask your law firms in your local marketing chapter if they would like to learn more about professional blogs. They’ll be lining up.

I travel cheap. I tell most folks the price of a beer is fine – though it’s always nice to get a free room in a reasonably priced motel or a free plane ticket. I’ll give you my best. Bring some nice handouts chock full of practical information. And try to make sure I don’t offend too many companies (at least not more so than they deserve).
