Pew Foundation : podcast numbers may have been inflated

After telling the world that 6 million Americans had listened to podcasts, The Blog Herald reports the Pew Foundation Pew has admitted that the figure may be inflated.

Pew research director Mary Madden, in an interview on NewsFactor says the numbers of people broadcasting and/or downloading podcasts is smaller than the 6 million figure cited in the recent Pew study.

Our question to the survey respondents on this was very broad. We asked if they had ever downloaded a podcast or radio Internet program’. That’s right, not just a podcast but a ‘radio internet program’, despite writing clearly in the study that the 6 million figure pertained strictly to podcasting.

Thought that number was high, but fact is people are using the Internet to listen, in addition to just reading. This may bode well for lawyers thinking about starting a podcast on their niche area of the law.
