Yahoo’s Overture tests RSS ads

November 20, 2004

CNET News.com reports Overture Services is looking at the viability of expanding its advertising network, which specializes in sponsored search results, into the hot area of Really Simple Syndication (RSS).

It was also reported Overture rival Google also could expand its network into RSS advertising. A Google representative said the company is not testing such a service at this time, but it is “always evaluating new opportunities to enhance our ad program.”

I’m not excited to see lawyers sell sponsored links on RSS feeds coming from their professional marketing blog. A lawyer’s blog is a source of information akin to an educational magazine for subscribers. The law firm is the sponsor or publisher of the blog. If anyone ought to be listed on the RSS feeds as a sponsor or advertiser it ought to be the law firm in a low key non abrasive way.
