Lawyer blogs establish lawyers as authorities for media
My blog is living proof lawyer blogs can be excellent public relations tools for lawyers. I’m a firm believer that being quoted as an expert in newspapers, magazines or other publications is worth ten times more than the exposure one gets from an ad – and you have to pay big money for ads.
Over the past couple weeks I have been called by 3 publications – a newspaper in Louisville, a newspaper in Ottawa, Canada and a trade magazine on marketing. Each wanted my input on a story they were doing on Internet marketing for professionals – two relating to the law. That doesn’t include a half page article on me and my lexBlog business done in my local suburban Seattle newspaper.
All of the stories had one thing in common. The reporters found me because of my blog showing up in search engines and the impression my blog made that I was an expert in the area of legal marketing on the Internet, blogs and RSS technology.
You can do the same in your area of practice of law and in your geographic area by publishing your own blog. Best of all, there is no reason you cannot establish yourself as such a legal authority within six months time. There ain’t no way you are going to accomplish this offline whether by published articles, speaking or paid advertisements – it would take years.
I am excited about what the future holds for my marketing through public relations. I have only been publishing my new blog for 3 months and I am receiving exposure on a national basis. In addition my blog is opening doors to speak to lawyers and legal marketing professionals about Internet marketing, blogs and RSS technology at seminars around this great country.
Understand that my blog is not a sham – I know a thing or two about Internet marketing for lawyers after practicing law for 17 years and working in the Internet marketing industry for the last 6 years. My blog is my platform though, to get the word out about my knowledge, expertise and care when it comes to marketing on the Internet.
Lawyers all across the country have similar knowledge, experience and care in their own area of the law. Why not get up on the mountain top and tell the world about it – or at least your own town and state? Don’t get up and say I am great, I have this degree, I am a member of this that or the other thing and everyone loves me.
You establish your expertise by sitting down in front of your blog a couple times a week and sharing your knowledge on the area of law you practice. It’s not hard. It does not take a lot of time. No time to type things in? Dictate a couple paragraphs and have it typed up for you.
If you are still at a loss, call me or drop me an email – I’ll help you and explain how easy it is – no cost. I love to see good lawyers sharing practical information with the public as a way to grow their business.
A little public relations can go a long way in establishing yourself as an expert and growing your business. It also goes a long way in reestablishing the legal profession’s reputation that has taken such a beating by all the tasteless lawyer advertising.
Give it a try. You’ll enjoy yourself and find it rewarding in more ways than one.
