New British Foreign Secretary a blogger

With yesterday’s change in Prime Minister from Tony Blair to Gordon Brown, Britian’s Foreign Secretary will become David Miliband. Mildiband is a blogger. He’s been blogging as Secretary of State for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs.

Neville Hobson, who I picked this up from, asks whether Miliband will continue as the most senior British politician writing a blog now that he is Foreign Secretary. The answer from Miliband’s blog:

As you will have heard, the new Prime Minister has asked me to take on new responsibilities as Foreign Secretary. Of course I am honoured to take up this new post.

The last 15 months have been hugely challenging and hugely enjoyable – and I hope we have made a difference. The new mechanisms for political engagement and dialogue represented by this blog are needed more than ever.

Thank you for reading, commenting and arguing over the last 15 months. It may take some time for new service to be resumed, but please watch this space.

And we have law firms scared of blogging because of confidences, ethics and the like? Not to sneeze at those issues, but we’re likely to have a Secretary of Foreign Affairs blogging soon.
