Lawyer blogs bring quality business clients

Des Moines business lawyer, Rush Nigut, shares his lawyer blog marketing success.

It is remarkable to me that more and more lawyers continue to advertise in the yellow pages each year.  The ROI for my blog has been huge.  And for those skeptics that think you only get small (bottom feeder) cases through the use of blogs – think again.  You would very surprised at the quality of cases that come in through effective Internet marketing.

The knee jerk reaction of lawyers and legal marketing professionals when they hear ‘blogs, is that blogs are for kids – “I don’t read blogs and neither do my clients.” Sure they may not read blogs but they’re wrong about business clients. With blogs just gaining traction, we already have 21% of business execs reading at least one business blog a week.

Kevin, it is even more remarkable to me that we even need to engage in a debate about whether lawyer blogs are useful and relevant. As Marv Albert might say, “YYYes”.

I hate to sound like an echo chamber for Kevin, but again, this post highlights how many lawyers don’t understand that the paradigm has shifted. Lawyers can pretend that blogs aren’t relevant and refuse to even learn what they are, but the proof is in the pudding. I’m getting exactly the kind of high-quality business readers — business people, insurers, scholars, and smart, connected lawyers — that I had hoped for. The viral nature of high quality blog content not only fills a need, it creates a market for more. True, many people get by solely with traditional marketing, but just because you can build a house with a hammer and a handsaw doesn’t mean you should pretend there is no such thing as a nail gun or cordless rotary saw. And it doesn’t mean you will be able to compete long-term with those who have them.
