Iowa lawyer blogs : Coming out of the corn

Iowa lawyer blogsBrett Trout and Rush Nigut from Lawpportunities report that YBlawg, their day long legal marketing via blogs program, is stirring Iowa lawyers to begin blogging.

[Chris Kane, owner of Jordan Creek Web Design] tells [Rush] the recent YBlawg seminar has created quite a buzz within the Des Moines legal community. In the week since our seminar, Kane already has two law firms (and possibly a third) that have asked him to create a blog for their Web sites. Kane is also busy working on the Blog Whiz blog which should contain helpful suggestions regarding blogs.

For any lawyers who did not attend the seminar, Brett and Rush have a booklet of over 100 pages filled with tips on how to write blog posts.

Talked to Rush last month about spreading the gospel of marketing via lawyer blogs to lawyers around the Midwest. We talked of possibly Chicago sometime next year. It would be fun to pull guys like Rush, Brett, Grant Griffiths (Kansas), and other heartland lawyers garnering significant work from their blogs together to share practical knowhow with lawyers looking for some straight talk on Internet marketing.

Teaching on lawyer blogs is going to have come from the grassroots like this. Sounds like ABA TechShow ’07 is by and large ignoring Internet marketing again, the large guys like FindLaw and LexisNexis have not a clue, and the bar association CLE’s are often not excited about programs focused on marketing/money making as opposed to substantive law.

Count me in. It would be great to get together with everyone in person and pass ideas and thoughts around about this blogging. Blogging is one of those great opportunities anyone can use to market their firm. Best of all, it is one of those efforts that really works. ROI is huge.

Kevin, that is a great idea. I would be excited to participate. Not only is blogging a great marketing tool but it actually gives lawyers the opportunity to improve their image with the public. I agree with Grant. The ROI is huge.

Name the time and the place and I will be there. Chicago sounds like a great spot and I would love to meet you guys in person. I think we all have pearls of blawg (oh, sorry, I meant law blog) wisdom to share.
Rush and I have some experience getting CLE approval for blog presentations. A Chicago law blog seminar with CLE approval might be very well received, especially with the possibility of so many big names taking part!

Thanks for chiming in so fast guys. Let’s stay in touch on this one. We really ought to pull this together, and LexBlog could lead the way on getting out the word and possibly on the organization side.
