80% of adults are online : Opportunities await professionals

Internet growth chart

Almost 80% of adults are now online (Pew Internet & American Life Project). When I started marketing online as a lawyer in 1996 it was less than 20%. And I generated a good deal of business from the net back then.

This poses a fabulous opportunity for savvy law firms and professional services firms. Sure there’s way more competition on the net today. But 95% of your competition does not have a clue what they are doing when it comes to Internet marketing. That means there’s even more opportunities.

I don’t want to hear any more excuses that in my area of the law, people are not online. Or that in my area of the country not that many people are online. That’s bunk. It’s time to get bullish on Internet marketing and what it can do for you.

. . . and to really appreciate the value of being online over the past 10 years, consider the rate at which the population of adults in the U.S. has increased since only 20% of us were online just 10 years ago. In other words, it’s not just that an extra 60% of the population from a decade ago has come online.
Consider too that the percentage of adults is continuing to grow expontially and that the new young adults who will be making or at least influencing the purchasing decisions for everything from family law to estate plannng and probate services, grew up with a computer in the home.
Now try to justify not making use of the internet as the powerful marketing and client service tool it has the potential to be!
Regretful that I only got online in the past few years,
