Yahoo's new homepage excludes directory listings

Search Engine Journal reports Yahoo's new homepage excludes directory listings.

Yahoo was started as a directory. But the reality is that few, if any one, uses the directory now. People do a search.

It will be interesting to see if those seeking search engine optimization via a strong link from Yahoo's directory will continue to pay $200/year. However, as aluded to by the Journal, it's possible that Yahoo could develop a human edited version of web search ala Yahoo Answers, MyWeb, Ratings, Reviews and tags. That's the way the web is going and could provide users better exposure.
