Twitter announced Thursday that it is launching a paid subscription offering in which subscribers will receive features not available to those using the current free version of Twitter.

Twitter Blue is being rolled out in Australia and Canada. You can expect Blue to be offered in the States after Twitter does this test run and receives additional feedback.

For now, Blue will offer three features unavailable to non-subscribers. The number of features in Blue will grow based on user feedback.

The features now offered, based on current user feedback, are:

  • Bookmark Folders: Organizes the Tweets you’ve saved by letting you manage content so when you need it, you can find it easily and efficiently.
  • Undo Tweet: You can set a customizable timer of up to 30 seconds to click ‘Undo’ before the Tweet, reply, or thread you’ve sent posts to your timeline.
  • Reader Mode: Makes it easier to keep up with long threads on Twitter by turning them into easy-to-read text so you can read the latest content seamlessly.

Subscribers will pay a monthly price of $3.49 CAD or $4.49 AUD. That’s about $3.50 in the States.

You’ll have to decide whether the price is worth it. My guess is a good number of users trust Twitter enough to pay for a growing number of features.

Twitter has become a source of news for a lot of people, including hundreds of thousands of legal professionals who rely on tweets from niche focused lawyers, reporters and organizations for the news and insight they need to practice and network.

I’m not a user of Blue yet and I don’t know if I’ll use these features when I am, but I am in Twitter’s camp when it comes to paying a subscription for simple to use and cost effective features.
