RSS for internal law firm communications

September 6, 2006

From Roland Piquepaille at ZDNet, at least one law firm is using RSS for internal communications.

Ross Szalay, IS director for the law firm Dykema, took the internal approach to turbocharge the firm’s ability to monitor current cases. For example, an attorney in charge of a specific client account gets a regular feed of all specific efforts undertaken by other attorneys for the client, so there’s a unified view of the services the client is getting — and needs to be billed for.

Firms will need to proceed slowly on this and have a very capable IT team on board to deploy RSS. RSS itself is not complicated. However, they’ll need to think through how RSS will be integrated with an existing network and forthcoming Microsoft applications that incorporate RSS.
