Mobile traffic as a percentage of global Internet traffic is growing at one and a half times per year and is expected to continue, if not accelerate. Mobile traffic is charted to be near 35% by year’s end.

This from the widely followed annual Internet Trends Report from Kleiner Perkins venture capitalist and former Wall Street securities analyst, Mary Meeker.

With law blogs already receiving from 20% to 30% from mobile, this growth should come as no surprise to law bloggers.

There remains plenty of upside in smartphone growth. The number of smartphones shipped continues to grow year after year.

Tablet sales, growing far faster than PC sales ever did, grew by 52% in 2013. Growth is depicted more by a jagged vertical line than a growth curve.

In addition, there is plenty of room for growth in tablet use. Tablet use is only 56% of laptop use, 28% of smartphone use! and 8% of TV use.

TV use? Yes, expect more people to pull up a tablet or smartphone to browse information on a big display presented by the citizen media, ala lawyers with blogs presenting text and video. Mobile devices are built to leverage big screens via wifi and bluetooth than laptops and desktops.

What’s it al mean? Law firms and lawyers need to be focused on mobile first, desktop and laptop second. Design, develop, and publish law blogs for mobile. The laptop and desktop experience easily flows from that, not vice versa.

Individual lawyers can not be allowed to gin up blogs with crazy designs and features they’ve dreamed up by viewing a desktop. Not only are they an eyesore, but they make for an ugly user experience. Mobile users, arguably the most important viewers you’ve got with the sharing they do, will not come back.

Law blogs need to be on responsive design. Like holding pride in the look of your office and your suit of clothes, a custom professional responsive design befitting of your image is advised.

Look around the sidewalks while walking down the street, the subway, or office lobbies. Mobile is a way of life.

And your law blogs need to be ready for even more mobile growth.
