Rubel kicks off social media conference for lawyers and law firms tomorrow morning

Steve Rubel PLI Social Media for LawyersSteve Rubel kicks off Practising Law Institute's full day program for lawyers and law firms on social media for professional and business development tomorrow with a talk titled "Cultivating Thought Leadership In the Digital Age."

Steve is a true digital media thought leader, having blogged actively since 2004 at Micropersuasion and now at The Steve Rubel Lifestream. He joined Edelman, one of the world's most respected public relations firms, as EVP/Global Strategy and Insights in 2006 to help the firm use blogs more effectively, and works with clients to unify their communications strategies across traditional and new forms of media. Kevin O'Keefe is excited to have Steve join the program and share his ideas with lawyers and law firms from across the country.

You don't need to be in New York to attend Wednesday's 'Lawyers' Guide to Using Social Media for Professional and Client Development 2011' and hear Steve's presentation. The conference will also be broadcast by webcast, and there's still time to register.

Beer for Bloggers in NYC Wednesday Night

Beer for Bloggers New YorkLexBlog and Kevin O'Keefe are hosting a Beer for Bloggers in New York on Wednesday, May 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at McGee's Pub following the PLI seminar on social media for lawyers. McGee's is at 240 West 55th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue.

You don't need to be a blogging lawyer to join. Lawyers, marketing/business development professionals, and those serving the legal profession are invited - even if you don't blog.

Kevin is in New York this week to chair an all-day seminar entirely devoted to educating lawyers on how they can utilize social media to enhance their professional lives hosted by Practising Law Institute.

The seminar can be atended either in-person at PLI headquarters in New York City or via live webcast—you can still register for both.

Kevin gets into New York Tuesday evening and will be in town through early Thursday evening. He'd welcome the opportunity to get together for coffee or a bite to eat.

You can reach him on his cell at (206) 321-3627, shoot him an email, or send him a message via Twitter.

PLI Webinar today: Understanding disclosure in blogging and social media

Practising Law Institute - Blog CouncilI'm part of a panel today for the Practising Law Institute's Understanding Disclosure in Blogging and Social Media live audio Webcast. The program runs from 1 to 2 ET and offers 1 hour of CLE.

The program, put on in conjunction with the Blog Council, is for internal counsel and other legal advisors who are drafting new employee policy, amending existing rules, or those who simply want a better understanding of the liabilities and opportunities inherent in these new communications tools.

It is billed in part as:

Today's knowledge workers live in a 24-7 mash-up world of business blogs, personal blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. But the lowering of the bar to self-expression brings along expectations of openness. Transparency has become standard operating procedure, and corporations (and the agencies that work on their behalf) need to familiarize themselves with the new rules for interacting with the social media community appropriately.

The program will highlight the Blog Council's recently published draft series of checklists called the Disclosure Best Practices Toolkit.

I'm appearing with Blog Council CEO Andy Sernovitz, John Pope, Digital Media Senior Manager at Dell Inc., and Laurie Steuri, Associate Director of External Relations at Procter & Gamble Co.
