Seth Godin asked this morning do you remember where you stood a year ago today?

  • Are you more trusted?
  • More skilled?
  • More connected to people who care about your work?
  • How many people would miss your work if you stopped contributing it.

Those are excellent questions for you as a lawyer. Heck they’re good milestones for any professional. Trusted? Skilled? Connected? Valued?

I am not suggesting a list of 10 New Year’s resolution’s. Per Godin,

New Year’s resolutions rarely work, because good intentions don’t often survive a collision with reality. But an inventory is a helpful tool, a way to keep track of what you’re building. Drip by drip.

How do you stand today? Are you further along than last year? Do you have planes to be further alone on these four next year.

I may make no more than one New Year’s resolution. That’s to be myself.

That means doing more to leverage the power of social media to help others while enabling me be more trusted and skilled as a result.
