Looking Back at LMA Tech: Unique Knowledge Straight from In-House Counsel

November 1, 2012

LXBN-TV-LogoLast month’s Legal Marketing Technology Conference West provided lawyers and legal marketing professionals an opportunity to share insight and ideas on how technology could be best leveraged in legal marketing and business development. Over 40 presenters from around the country spoke to mostly standing room only audiences.

LexBlog’s LXBN had the honor of serving as the conference’s media sponsor. LXBN TV conducted over 40 interviews of presenters and attendees to give life to the conference outside the walls of Hotel Nikko in San Francisco.

Though the video interviews have been run on LXBN, I wanted to share the brief videos with you. Over the next week, I’ll post many of the videos here. Take a look, they’re only two or three minutes long.

View of In-House Counsel

With a number of in-house counsel, and professionals who work closely with them, on hand, the conference presented an opportunity to get inside the minds of the professionals and executives who do the hiring of lawyers.

Budget Chief Legal Officer Jason Romrell was among that group. As part of his session with other buyers of legal services, he explained that—at the very least—lawyers must understand the basics of social media, and it’s better if they actually use it. We followed up with him afterwards:

Further elaborating on the connecting between in-house counsel and social media use, Greentarget‘s John Corey shared data from his company’s survey of in-house counsel, which revealed that in-house counsel trust blogs authored by lawyers as much as they do those written by members of the mainstream media.

Getting away from social media, and focusing on more traditional client development, Hewlett Packard Deputy General Counsel Gregg Melinson explained that establishing a deep knowledge of a client’s business can be the key differentiator for lawyers.

Here’s a full look at all the insight offered regarding in-house counsel’s perspective on the legal industry. For LXBN’s complete coverage of the event, visit the Legal Marketing Technology Conference West section on LXBN.
