Seattle University Law School social media program and reception Wednesday evening

Seattle University Law SchoolI’ll be presenting at Seattle University Law School Wednesday evening, February 8, during a workshop and panel discussion focusing on ways social media can benefit today’s law student and lawyer. The program is being co-sponsored by the King County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and Seattle University School of Law’s Center for Professional Development.

The program will run from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning with a one-hour LinkedIn.com workshop with Matt Youngquist, career coach and President of Career Horizons. Following the workshop, I’ll be on a panel with Seattle attorneys, Andrew Ackley and Justin Walsh.

The event will close with a networking reception at the law school hosted by KCBA and Seattle University School of Law. To reserve your seat, please RSVP in Symplicity.

And who will be warning these law students about the pitfalls, the ethical problems, the potential for disgrace to the profession, that abounds on social media? Will that be you or the two baby lawyers on the panel?

I will be playing your video from Bloomberg Law of last week. ;)
On a serious note, there is a heck of a lot more to be gained by law students using social networking and social media for professional growth and getting a job than the risk of pitfalls.
As we discussed last week, if the students fall for some of the shills of the net telling law students how to get rich without effort via the net, that’s their own fault. I’m not big on a society where we need to protect people from themselves, especially people who are supposed to be lawyers or soon to be lawyers.
