94% of large law firms plan to use blogs in social media marketing initiatives : LexisNexis Survey

December 21, 2011

Pursuant to a LexisNexis Survey on the Use of Social Media in the Legal Sector released today, 94% of the AmLaw 200 law firms (200 largest law firms) plan to use blogs in their social media marketing initiatives.

The percentage of the AmLaw 200 law firms planning to use blogs exceeds all other social media initiatives such law firms plan to use.

  • 90% plan to use professional social network sites such as LinkedIn.
  • An average of 85% plan to use Twitter.
  • An average of 58% plan to use consumer social networks such as Facebook and Google+.
  • An average of 49% plan to use Video (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
  • An average of 33% plan to use social Q & A (Wikipedia, Quora, Yahoo! Answers etc.).

For firms of all sizes, it’s 83% who plan to use blogs as part of their marketing initiatives, with solo to 5 person firms at 88%. Equally as impressive, for firms of all sizes, the only social media service firms plan to use as much as blogs are professional social networks such as LinkedIn.

This survey’s findings confirm the findings of the recent LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell survey which found law firm blogging still in its infancy.

Here’s a graph depicting what social media services law firms plan to use by size of law firm.
