Real Lawyers Have Blogs On the topic of the law, firm marketing, social media, & baseball

“Public Speaking for Professionals” webinar recording now available

Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday’s webinar, "Public Speaking for Professionals," presented by attorney, communications professional and certified CLE provider Faith Pincus of Pincus Professional Education and LexBlog CEO Kevin O’Keefe. Faith blogs on The LexBlog Network at Speech Advice.

Faith opened with a quote from Thomas Jefferson: "opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work." She emphasized that getting speaking engagements is work, but also a fantastic opportunity– one that many professionals miss out on.

Faith discussed how to get a speaking engagement– how you select your audience, who to ask, how (and how not) to ask– and how to maximize the value of the event. She advised attendees to find groups, clubs and organizations related to their area of practice, think outside the box, include social media, and always research who you’re going to be talking to.

Remember, just because a CLE or organization doesn’t cover a specific topic doesn’t mean they won’t.

If you were not able to make it, you can view the recording at LexBlog’s events center.

Faith has also generously made the first chapter of her upcoming ABA book, tentatively titled “Be Heard: Public Speaking for Attorneys,” available to LexBlog clients. You can email her at faithpincus@speechadvice.com for a copy, or with any questions you may have.
