Palm Springs estate planning lawyer gets local news coverage first day blog is live

Palm Springs Estate Planning Lawyer

Palm Springs estate planning lawyer Daryl Binkley launched his Desert Estate Planning Law Blog yesterday afternoon.

In less than 24 hours, Binkley's blog was picked up by the Desert Sun in an announcement headlined 'New Internet blog covers estate planning law.' The Desert Sun owned by Gannett Publications is the sole local daily newspaper serving Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley of Southern California.

Binkley's good fortune is a lessen to other lawyers launching blogs. The use of blogs by professional services businesses to share helpful information, insight, and commentary is still a new phenomena. Take advantage of this by sharing word of what you're doing with the business or other appropriate section of your local newspaper.

Obviously, your blog is going to be picked up by more people online than offline. But Binkley has to be feeling pretty good that news of his blog was just announced in the only daily newspaper serving Palm Springs (population 50,000) and the Coachella Valley, with a population of close to a million people.

And no, we can't promise those same immediate results for each LexBlog client.

Update: Already received this comment to blog from VP/Sr. Trust Officer of local bank and trust: 'Thank you for the hard work you're putting into creating the Blog. I look forward to reading your articles.'

Great blog and another great example of how a blog can benefit the firms using one to provide information to their readers.

Yeah, but...if you send your local newspaper a press release that says "Local law firm hires new receptionist" they'll put that in, too, especially if you are an advertiser. I mean, they'll put in an announcement if you burp. They need to fill that business briefs section. No reason not to do it, of course, but I wouldn't ascribe much news value to it. Also, you can expect a call from the newspaper's ad salesperson soon after.

What you say may be true Mark, but why down play the significance of this?

One firm gets in paper for hiring a receptionist. My response and the response of other business people - 'so what, can't believe the law firm thought was interesting.'

Another firm gets in having a law blog of value to businesses and people with a significant net worth. My reponse as a business person - 'that's interesting, looks like a good resource, looks like an innovative lawyer, wonder why my lawyer does not use innovative tools like a blog etc.' Some business people may even think enough of the blog to post a comment like the one by the VP on the referenced blog saying he liked the effort.

My point is to use those things at your disposal to enhance your reputation. Coverage in the local paper and local business journals of your law blog is a good idea and has generated positive responses for a number of our clients.
