Read that in a comment from Ben Glass to a recent post of mine. '[T]he ONLY reason, in my view, to blog, have a website, etc. is to get your site positioned well in the search engines.' That's nuts. I'm...

We stopped running ANYTHING in the yellow pages about ten years ago after deciding that the few calls we were getting were not even worth the time to take them. Blogging brings in work from people who already know exactly what you do, how you do it, and even who you are. This makes the phone calls well worth it. This Ben guy is (as my children put it) a little bit off.

Even volume exposure that can come with top Google rankings *must* be backed up with substance to generate profile & qualified leads.

Put yourself in the searchers (buyers) shoes. How do you make a decision? Even I will admit that SEO is a tool of exposure, and top rankings alone don't make much of an impression.

I came across this post and think you're being a little harsh on Ben Glass here.

SEO is great if your website is converting at a high rate. You can rank #1 for as many and whatever keywords as you'd like, but when it's all said and done, if you're not generating leads, what's the point?

I use a blog as my only promotional "web site" (along with my Twitter and other SM pages) and love everything about the blogosphere, from maintaining transparency to promoting/sharing other blog posts and comments.

I think in Ben's comment he even said that hopefully he worded it well enough to explain what he was trying to get across, which I think is that, it doesn't matter how many readers your blog gets, how many keywords you rank for, how many social media pages you have... if you're not effectively networking, generating leads, and promoting these resources to maintain a positive online image and reputation... what is the actual end product?

Just my two cents, I think his comment may not have come across as it should, from a neutral stand point. Great blog by the way :)
